AFCON joy for Amad Diallo as Ivory Coast continue title defence

Manchester United attacker Amad Diallo says he is living out a childhood dream after both featuring and scoring at the Africa Cup of Nations.

The 23-year-old’s solitary goal secured defending champions Ivory Coast a crucial victory in their opening group match against Mozambique on Wednesday.

Speaking to SABC Sport, Diallo revealed he had long dreamed of representing his country on the continental stage.

"I'm very proud to play for my country because it's a dream come true, and I missed the last two editions because of injury so I'm really happy to be here.

"Our next game is against Cameroon and we know it will be a tough one."

Diallo admits there’s a lot of weight on the team to do something as rare as defending the title in Morocco.

Ivory Coast are in Group F, viewed by many as the toughest at the AFCON alongside Gabon, Cameroon and Mozambique.

Diallo agrees.

The United striker added that he was impressed with the facilities provided by the hosts.

"There are nice facilities, from the hotels to the pitches, we are all really pleased with everything in Morocco."
