AFCON: Burkina Faso seal second place in Group E after seeing off Sudan

Burkina Faso sealed second place in Group E at the Africa Cup of Nations after a 2-0 victory against Sudan while Algeria made it a perfect group stage record with a 3-1 win over Equatorial Guinea.

Both teams came into the contest on three points apiece after the opening two encounters and Burkina Faso took the lead after 26 minutes when Lassina Traore found the back of the net.

Al Gozoli Nooh missed the chance to equalise from the penalty spot midway through the first half after being brought down by Burkina Faso goalkeeper Herve Koffi.

The Stallions then sealed the victory with five minutes remaining when Arsene Kouassi added a second on the scoreboard.

Sudan will take on Senegal in the last 16 encounter while Burkina Faso will play Ivory Coast, Cameroon or Mozambique.

Algeria 3-1 Equatorial Guinea

Algeria went through the group stages unblemished after a comfortable 3-0 victory against Equatorial Guinea in Rabat.

The Algerians showed their superiority in teh first half when they went 3-0 in front after 32 minutes.

Zineddine Belaid opened the scoring after five minutes before Fares Chaibi doubled the advantage in the midway through the opening period.

Ibrahim Maza then got Algeria's third and the north African outfit were well on their way to three wins from three.

Equatorial Guinea gave a better account of themselves after the interval as Emilio Nsue pulled a goal back but the saw them leave the tournament pointless.
