Stormers look to next challenge in Sale Sharks

The Stormers will resume their Champions Cup challenge when they face English side Sale Sharks at DHL Stadium on January 13.

With one win against defending champions Stade Rochelais and one loss against Leicester Tigers away from home, the DHL Stormers currently sit in fourth place in Pool Four.

They still have a home game against Sale and and away match against Stde Francais in Paris to go, with the top four in each pool going through to the play-offs.

The Champions Cup is an elite competition that sees the top eight sides from the Vodacom United Rugby Championship, English Premiership and French Top 14 battle it out for top honours.

Sale are currently in third place in the English Premiership, having recently beaten defending champions Saracens. They sit in third place in the Champions Cup Pool Four, just ahead of the Stormers on points difference having won one and lost one as well.

Sale boast a number of South African players in their squad, with former Stormers such as Ernst van Rhyn, Cobus Wiese and Rob du Preez all set to make the trip to Cape Town next week.

Having seen off the challenge of Stade Rochelais with a dramatic last-gasp touchline conversion from Manie Libbok, the Stormers will be looking to extend their unbeaten home run in the competition.

They won all three of their Champions Cup matches at DHL Stadium last season, including a Round of 16 match against English side Harlequins and will be aiming to make it five wins out of five at the home ground when Sale arrive.

The match kicks off at 19h30 on Saturday, January 13 and will be the Stormers' last home game until March 23 when Edinburgh visit in the United Rugby Championship.
