British and Irish Lions coach Andy Farrell has rung the changes for their first game on tour in Australia, as they take on the Western Force in Perth on Saturday.

Tour captain Maro Itoje has been rested for the opening match, with Dan Sheehan taking over the captaincy role in his absence.

Farrell has made several other changes to his team, which fell to a 24-28 defeat to Argentina at the Aviva Stadium last week.

Ireland hooker Sheehan is one of five Leinster starters in Perth, alongside club teammates Garry Ringrose, James Lowe, Joe McCarthy and Josh van der Flier, all of whom make their British and Irish Lions debuts this weekend at the Optus Stadium.

England and Leicester Tigers lock Ollie Chessum, Scotland and Glasgow Warriors centre Huw Jones, Ireland and Leinster prop Andrew Porter and England and Bath prop Will Stuart are four players who are set to make their debuts off the bench.

"We have had a good week of training and all of the travel and time zone changes have been managed really well, so we are good to go," said British & Irish Lions head coach Farrell.

"Dan Sheehan gets the opportunity to lead the side against Western Force, which is a great honour for him and his family - so congratulations to Dan as he captains the side on his Lions debut.

"We know the quality and experience the Force have and the opportunity to play against the Lions always brings out special performances from the Super Rugby sides, so we expect them to be at their best."

Elliot Daly, who came off the bench against Argentina, starts at full-back and is joined in the back-three by Mack Hansen and Lowe. Sione Tuipulotu shifts from outside centre into the number 12 jersey to accommodate Ringroseâ™s inclusion at 13 while Finn Russell takes over the starting fly-half role and partners Tomos Williams in the halfbacks.

Henry Pollock packs down at number eight for the Lions with Tadhg Beirne joined by fellow Irishman Van der Flier in the back-row. Scott Cummings starts alongside McCarthy in the locks while Tadhg Furlong and Pierre Schoeman are the starting props either side of Sheehan.

Ronan Kelleher, Porter, Stuart, Chessum, Jack Conan, Alex Mitchell, Jones, and Smith are named on the bench with Farrell deploying a traditional 5-3 split.
