Currie Cup: Sharks snatch victory over the Pumas, WP hold off Griffons

The Sharks scored two tries in the final five minutes to snatch a dramatic 24-22 victory over the Pumas in their Currie Cup game played in Nelspruit on Friday.

The home team looked to have done enough for the win with a 22-10 lead going into the last seven minutes but Dylan Richardson and Dian Bleuler went over for five-pointers for the visitors.

Nevaldo Fleurs nailing both conversions, one after the hooter, to make sure the Sharks take maximum points back to Durban.

The Pumas had earlier built up a sizable thanks largely to the boot of flyhalf Tinus de Beer, who slotted four penalties, a conversion and a drop goal for a haul of 17 points.

Giovan Snyman went over for the home side's solitary try with 10 minutes to go that looked to have sealed the contest.

The Sharks though never gave in and their two-try burst late in the game saw them walk away with all the points.

Western Province hold on to beat Griffons

Western Province held off a strong fight back from the Griffons to secure a 25-21 bonus-point victory in their Currie Cup clash played in Welkom on Friday.

The visitors led 13-0 at halftime thanks to tries by Jarrod Taylor and Andre-Hugo Venter while Clayton Blommetjies slotted a penalty to open the scoring.

The Cape side then extended their advantage to a commanding one early after the interval as tries by Jean-Luc du Plessis and Thomas Bursey gave them a 25-point lead.

The hosts seemed to be dead and buried but fought back bravely in the final 20 minutes with three converted tries.

Domenic Smit, CJ Coetzee, HP van Schoor all went over for five-pointers while Jaywinn Juries slotted the extras from the kicking tee.

In the end though it wasn't enough as Province held on for their fifth victory in 10 Currie Cup games this season while the Griffons remain at the foot of the table.
