Currie Cup: Griquas hit back to beat Western Province

Griquas recovered from a halftime deficit to beat Western Province 38-29 in their Currie Cup clash played in Kimberley on Friday.

The home team scored five tries to four from the visitors while George Whitehead contributed 13 points with the boot for Griquas.

Western Province were boosted by several URC players from the Stormers in the starting line-up and made a good start when they raced into a 19-7 lead.

Marcel Theunissen went in for two tries while Paul De Wet added another for the visitors while Dylan Sjöblom scored a five-pointer for the hosts.

Jay-Cee Nel scored on the stroke of halftime as Griquas went into the interval 14-19 behind and were primed for second-half onslaught.

And they duly obliged, scoring three more tries through Lubabalo Dobela, Sean Swart and Sango Xamlashe while WP could only respond with one score from Willie Engelbrecht.
