Currie Cup: Boland book playoff spot, Sharks beat WP in basement battle

Boland booked their spot in the Currie Cup playoffs after a dramatic comeback saw them beat the Pumas while Sharks came out on top against Western Province in a game between the bottom teams.

Boland stun Pumas with second half comeback

Boland launched a stunning second half comeback to beat the Pumas 29-26 in Nelspruit on Friday.

The home side found themselves 21-3 ahead at halftime but the visitors from the Cape Winelands scored three tries and penalty try in the closing stages to seal the win.

The Pumas opened the scoring when prop Eduan Swart went over for tries, followed by a further two five-pointers by Ross Braude.

Danrich Visagie slotted all three conversions while a James Tedder penalty was the only points Boland could muster in the first half.

It was all different after the interval though as Marcqiewn Titus, Xavier Mitchell and Dayan van der Westhuizen crossed for tries for the visitors.

Boland sealed the victory in dramatic style when they were awarded a penalty try with two minutes remaining.

Sharks beat WP in battle of the basement dwellers

The Sharks recorded their first victory of the season when they saw off Western Province 29-21 in Durban.

It was the visitors that got off to a flying start and took a 14-0 lead as Paul de Villiers and Ezekiel Ngobeni scored tries while Kyle Smith added both conversions.

The hosts hit back with tries by Philo Sobahle and Jaco Williams while Jean Smith slotted a conversion to make 14-12 at the halftime interval.

Phatu Ganyane powered his way over the line for the home team's third try just after the interval.

Bathobele Hlekani added the bonus-point try for the Sharks and they closed out the contest to get the win.
