Zungu praises regions for defying threats and intimidation ahead of SAFA elections

The SAFA elective congress will be held in Johannesburg this coming Saturday, pitting Zungu against the incumbent Danny Jordaan, who is going for his fourth term.  

The AmaZulu owner is confident of the support he’s got and says some of his backers have had to lie low and pretend to be in the opposite camp, for fear of being victimized and marginalized, going to the elections.

"Look, I've got to respect people, if that's what they say and they demonstrate that if you are seen to be not supporting, we'll dismantle your region and we'll make sure that you are disqualified from going to elections,” Zungu said. 

“Some of them say, 'But my name has been put on the list for the NeC, I don't want them to start mobilizing against me. I want you Mr Zungu but I also want to be on NeC so the best is to pretend, sing, my president like everyone else but vote for the future’ and we've got to be accommodative of that. 

“We've got reasonable levels of commitment that we can trust these people who will do the right thing and that's how we go forward."

Meanwhile, Zungu says they are fully aware of the negative and dirty tactics his rival camp is bringing up to either suspend or block some of the regions that are pro-him. 

He spoke about the challenges that they have been having, including what he calls, the purging of members.

"We are obviously putting up a very brave face, we are seething with the anger into what is being done to regions. Our legends here have been disqualified from participating in the fourth coming elections and we believe unjustly so,” he added. 

“Some regions who are clearly forcefully pushing for change, there was an attempt to change leadership which did not succeed and as punishment for them, they are being disqualified from participating in the fourth coming elections. 

“As I'm talking, there are consultations with legal people to see how to take that matter forward and trust me, we take it very very seriously."
