Nomfundo Mngomezulu on why she left Johannesburg to return home to KZN

The former Proteas goal shooter enjoyed a highly successful spell with Johannesburg, helping the team win three Spar Senior National Championships titles.

Mngomezulu says she left Johannesburg on good terms and simply felt it was the right time to return home and use the valuable experience she gained to help develop netball in KwaZulu-Natal.

"There's nothing much, I felt like it was time for me to go back home. I think whatever that I came to do in Johannesburg I think I've done everything in Johannesburg,” Mngomezulu said. 

“So, I feel like it was time for me to go back home, especially in my district. They would have been happy to have me also going back home, I think everyone is happy so I'm happy. 

“There's no reason and it's not like someone did something to me, no one did something to me. I just decided that this year, I need to go back home. 

“Whatever the information and the knowledge and experience that I have I think it will be fair for me to use it back home."

Mngomezulu, who is currently studying towards a diploma in transport management, says moving to Johannesburg opened many doors for her career.

She explains that the move brought her closer to opportunities such as representing the Proteas and winning the Telkom Netball League with the Golden Fireballs, making it an important step in her growth as a player.

"I feel like moving to Joburg, especially moving to the University of Johannesburg to go there and study. I've achieved a lot since everyone you know when you are in rural areas it's not easy for scouts to see you or people to see your talent and everyone,” she added.

“So, I thought maybe moving into Johannesburg I achieved a lot especially with school and also moving to Spar Proteas that was a big achievement for me because I feel like if I was in KZN, it was not gonna be so easy for me. 

“Especially for the coaches in the national team to see me. So, I think moving to Johannesburg was a good decision for me."
