Born claimed the vacant crown with a second-round knockout of the former two-time champion, succeeding Adama Diop, who has since secured a UFC contract through Dana White’s Contender Series.
The new champion admitted he had been itching to respond to the confidence shown by Djikasa and his camp, particularly their insistence that the DR Congo international was the overwhelming favourite heading into their showdown.
"For weeks I had to listen how he and his camp were talking, but what they didn't know is that I've been training to take on the best even before I was an amateur. I've been watching him and training for this fight for a long time."
Born also elaborated on his approach on the night.
"I knew if I stay in front of him that he would break. My corner told me to step away but I didn't because I saw how broken he was in his eyes every time he threw a punch."
The newly crowned heavyweight champion added that his win is dedicated to his community in the hopes it would inspire belief.
Asked if he was ready to take on the legendary Elvis Moyo next, Born was quick to put his hand up for that bout.
