Xaba produced a dominant performance at the Spar Women’s 10km Challenge in Tshwane on Saturday, successfully defending her title and breaking the course record in 32:28. The previous record belonged to experienced Namibian runner Helelia Johannes.
After missing the Durban leg because she was competing in Atlanta, USA, Xaba returned strongly and remains firmly in the hunt for the Spar Grand Prix series title.
The Boxer Running Club star says her next big targets are to qualify for the Olympic Games and the World Athletics Championships.
"I still want to achieve so much more, I want to qualify for the Olympics and the World Champs. I still want to break a few more records for myself and my country."
The South African marathon record holder said her race went exactly according to plan and formed part of her build-up for the World Half Marathon Championships later this year.
Xaba also reflected on her recent race in Atlanta, where she competed against a strong international field. She believes the experience of racing overseas has helped her grow as an athlete.
"The race in Atlanta was packed with world class athletes, the race was very fast and I'm just happy I got the invitation to participate. It's not easy to get these invitations to take part overseas, but my results speak for itself."
The South African half-marathon record holder, who has already won the Spar Grand Prix series three times, believes she has a real chance of defending her crown again this season.
If she succeeds, Xaba would become the first athlete in the history of the competition to win four Spar Grand Prix series titles.
