Burmester brings ‘Football Fridays’ spirit to LIV Golf party hole

Southern Guards GC player Dean Burmester revealed that Adidas gifted each team member the new Bafana Bafana away jersey, and he saw it as a perfect opportunity to showcase it at LIV Golf.

Burmester channeled the energy from the thousands of South Africans at the par-3 17th to produce a shot that came within inches of a hole-in-one.

Speaking at the post-round press conference, Burmester said it ranked among the top three moments of his career.

"Yeah so I mean look every Friday in South Africa we love supporting our teams and we have the football World Cup coming up and it's 'Football Friday' so we've got to support Bafana Bafana and we were lucky enough that they sent us some jerseys,” Burmester said.

“So, I thought it would be a really cool idea to kind of put that on and then yeah, to hit that kind of golf shot off so that it's super special. I thought it was halfway in the flight I was like I dreamt about this moment for about 10 days so when it took off and it was in the flag I was like please be the right club, please be the right club and then it just looked so good the whole way, then unfortunately it didn't spin enough.

“That was probably the top three moments in my career right there."

Burmester, who wrapped up round two tied for fourth, added that had the shot gone in, he would have hoped it became his “Siphiwe Tshabalala moment”.

"I sure as hell hope so, I wouldn't have done the same celebration he did. He made it look pretty classy, I think I would have taken my whole clothing off and run down the hole, I would have done something crazier,” he added.

“So, we gotta make it more physical, I figured out, I'll try and do that. That would have been pretty cool but for me that's a good moment for me."
