SABC Sport has it on good authority that the junior international has put pen to paper on a three-year deal with added options to continue the club’s impressive reputation of producing quality keepers over the years.

Molefe turned 20-years-old just last month, but has been part of the first team since the days of coach Ernst Middendorp even though he’s not yet made an official appearance for the senior side since then.

He did go to Belgium along with midfielder Mduduzi Shabalala, the 19-year-old who has established himself as a regular at Naturena, in April last year to spend a month on trial at topflight outfit Royal Antwerp hoping to seal a move abroad.

Chiefs did not give any feedback on developments for both players as the duo returned home and have not returned to Europe.

Shabalala subsequently signed a three-year deal.

Although Molefe is fourth in the pecking order of goalkeepers at Chiefs behind Brandon Petersen, veteran Itumeleng Khune and Bruce Bvuma, the idea behind a new deal, SABC Sport has learnt, is to avoid losing a future prospect for free.

Molefe was in the final months of his contract.

It remains to be seen how Amakhosi map out his future considering his age and the likelihood that he will not take over soon, but it’s believed Molefe is highly rated by the club and has had the same process as Khune.

The Bafana Bafana international joined Chiefs aged 13 and made his debut when he turned 20-years-old and he is now in the twilight of his career at 35.

Molefe has also played for the U17, 20 and 23 national teams, with the chance that he could be part of the Olympic Games squad if they qualify for the event in Paris next year under the guidance of coach David Notoane.
