World number one Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff cruise into Indian Wells semi-finals

Two straight-set wins saw hot favourites Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff reach the final four of the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells.

Third seed Gauff made it to her first semi-final at the tournament after she defeated unseeded Yue Yuan from China 6-4 6-3 despite hitting 17 double faults.

The 20-year-old was down a break point and 3-1 in the second set but held her nerve and fought her way back into the set, eventually becoming the youngest American woman since Serena Williams in 2001 to reach the tournament's semi-final.

"Yeah, I'm really happy to be through today's match," Gauff said after the match.

"It wasn't the best style of the serving, but overall I think when it comes to the groundstroke game and returns, everything else, honestly, I played well. I just try and take the positives into the next match."

Gauff will play Greece's Maria Sakkari who defeated American Emma Navarro 5-7 6-2 6-4.

It took just more than a set for Swiatek to move into the semi-finals after she came back from 4-1 down to win the first set 6-4, before Caroline Wozniacki retired hurt early in the second due to a right foot injury.

Swiatek will play Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk who beat Russian Anastasia Potapova 6-0 7-5.
