US Open: Alexandra Eala enjoys travelling support as she powers past Mary Stoiana

The 21-year-old Filipino produced a commanding display at Louis Armstrong Stadium, securing a 6-1, 6-2 victory in straight sets to advance to the second round.

Eala's success was backed by a remarkable travelling support base, with large numbers of Filipino fans creating an atmosphere that made New York feel like home.

The response was evident even before her match, as every seat around the practice court was occupied roughly four hours before she took to court.

Many supporters did not have tickets for Monday evening's session but still came to watch Eala prepare. Philippine flags were prominent in the crowd, while fans sported hats bearing the message "Laban Alex".

"Thank you everybody for being part of my journey and making it such a pleasure to do my job," Eala said after the win.

Her growing popularity comes amid an impressive season. Eala recently defeated Iga Swiatek at Wimbledon before claiming her maiden WTA Tour singles title in Washington.

Those achievements have helped propel her to a career-high world ranking of No. 18, with many expecting the rising star to climb even higher.
