Red-hot Alexander Zverev leads Germany into Davis Cup Final 8

Fresh off his Grand Slam win at Flushing Meadows, Zverev carried his form into the team event. Buoyed by playing in front of a home crowd in Halle, Zverev won both his matches in straight sets to book Germany a place in the finals via a 3-1 win over Croatia.

On day one, Zverev saw off a the impressive world No. 171 Matej Dodig to win 6-4, 7-6(3). Then on Sunday, Zverev defeated Dino Prizmic 6-2, 6-4 to complete his country's victory.

"I had an extremely difficult match," said Zverev of the clash against Prizmic.

"I thought I played well but [he] played amazing tennis today. I think we're going to see him at the top of the game very, very soon. The power that he has, the talent that he has is incredible. I didn't expect it. Credit to him. He played a fantastic tennis match.

"The Davis Cup here at home in front of the home fans was incredible. That is exactly what the Davis Cup is all about for me. We have a strong team that deserves to be at the Finals."

Elsewhere, Great Britain rolled Ecuador 4-0, Austria defeated Belgium 3-1, Czech Republic edged USA 3-2 and Canada knocked out France with a 3-1 scoreline.
