South African heavyweight warrior, Juan Alberts is eyeing a title shot after a terrifying TKO win over Namibia’s Kareb Shitana in lightning-quick time over the weekend.
The heavyweight bout between the South African and the Namibian was scheduled for eight rounds, but as is the case with heavyweight boxing, someone’s lights can go out in a matter of seconds.
Albert’s victory on Saturday night at Emperor’s Palace extends his undefeated record as a professional.
Here is what “The Gentleman” had to say after his rapid fight.
“This was a great win for me, because I had a point to prove on the night. My opponent was of a high level, and before this fight, he had only lost once before in his career against another solid opponent.”
Alberts has already set his sights on bigger fights in the not-too-distant future, and the manner of his victory could grant him a title shot.
“I’m aiming for maybe a title fight next, I’m just waiting on Rodney Berman and Golden Gloves to discuss possible plans with me, and my trainer, Ryno Liebenberg.
“Just like my sparring sessions leading up to the fight, it was an explosive performance on the night.”
The key to Juan Albert's rapid rise has been his activity; ever since his debut, he has remained busy in order to fast-track his development, and the powerful puncher senses bigger opportunities just around the corner.
“I know Golden Gloves is planning to host a heavyweight series, which will begin early next year. All the heavyweight prospects will feature in that series, so I’m looking forward to making a name for myself against quality fighters in that event.
“For now, we’re taking it one fight at a time, and in the meantime, I will continue to train hard and to push my limits.”
