Jannik Sinner confirms China Open withdrawal as knee injury continues

The Italian has now withdrawn from the Canadian Open, Cincinnati Open, US Open and China Open due to the injury, with the Shanghai Masters now likely to be his next tournament.

Sinner took to social media to share a video in which he said: "My knee is not there where I would like it to be. I will be doing everything to be on court as soon as I can.

"What I'll miss the most is of course the atmosphere and the fans, I've had a great time in the past. I'll see you all very soon on court again."

Because Sinner won the China Open last year, his withdrawal means he will lose the full 500 points he earned from that title.

The gap between Sinner and Alexander Zverev has been reduced to 1,370 points. If Zverev wins the China Open, where he is the top seed, the gap between the two will fall to fewer than 900 points heading into the Shanghai Masters.

Both Sinner and Alcaraz were eliminated in the third round of the Shanghai Masters last year, meaning they have an opportunity to pick up a significant number of ranking points this time around.

Both players are expected to compete at the Shanghai Masters and Paris Masters before the ATP Finals.

Sinner and Zverev have also signed up for the ATP 500 Vienna Open, which runs from 24 October to 1 November.
