Drama at EFC weigh-in as Ken Sekeletu loses belt on the scale

EFC interim featherweight champion Ken Sekeletu failed to make weight on Wednesday ahead of his title defense tonight, leaving challenger Billy Oosthuizen as the only fighter eligible to claim the belt.

The limit for the featherweight division was set at 65.8kg, but Sekeletu came in over the mark and was forced to relinquish his title on the scale.

Despite the setback, the bout will still go ahead as planned.

Speaking before the weigh-in, Sekeletu had expressed confidence about facing Oosthuizen in what has been billed as one of the most anticipated EFC showdowns of the year.

"Training camp has been really good, and I am feeling a bit of pressure heading into this fight, but not too much pressure, because I know what I can do on the night.

"I am the Champion, this is my time, and I'm ready."

The Zambian said winning the featherweight title against Roedie Roets in March gave him credibility, and his only focus since has been to defend it.

Asked for his thoughts on the bout, Oosthuizen argued he cared more about defeating a fighter of the quality of Sekeletu than getting the title itself.

"I am very excited for this fight, and I've been training for a really long time for this fight. It's also nice to have found a skilled opponent like Sekeletu, as it's just going to bring the best out of me, and it's a good name to have on my record."

Sekeletu immediately had a few words to add after hearing the remarks from the challenger.

"I don't know why he's talking because he arrived late. This is not your show bro. You don't have the belt.

"Make sure you turn up."
