Aryna Sabalenka faces Elena Rybakina in Australian Open final

Aryna Sabalenka will face Elena Rybakina in the final of the 2026 Australian Open after both ladies won their respective semifinals in straight sets on Thursday.

Sabalenka was all power as she saw off spirited challenger Elina Svitolina, crushing 29 winners as she eased to a 6-2, 6-3 win over the Ukrainian.

Svitolina had her chance in the opening game to break the indomitable Belarusian, but Sabalenka saved both break points and proceeded to dominate the set. Sabalenka broke Svitolina twice on her way to closing it out.

But Svitolina rallied in the second, winning the opening two games. However, the adversity fired up Sabalenka. The world number one turned up the power and dominated nearly all extended rallies to reel off five unanswered games and all but seal the deal. She served out the match without drama.

"Right now my mentality is like I'm ready to do whatever - [whoever] is going to be in that final - I'm ready to go out there and fight with what I have and do everything I can," Sabalenka said on court afterwards.

"I think when I have this mentality, I play my best tennis, and I'm there, I'm fighting, I have my opportunities. So that's my approach to the finals this season."

Sabalenka will be looking to avenge her loss in last year's Australian Open Final, where she fell to an inspired Madison Keys.

Later, Rybakina weathered a strong fightback from Jessica Pegula to emerge the victor 6-3, 7-6(9) to reach her third grand slam final.

The Kazakh reeled off the opening three games in her way to dominating the opening set in just 32 minutes.

Rybakina's power game and sizzling serve were too much for the American and she found herself with three match points up 5-4. But in an incredible turnaround, Pegula took advantage of Rybakina's nerves, saved all three match points and after a flurry of breaks, found herself on set point in the ensuing tiebreak.

This time, Rybakina held her nerve off the back of two powerful serves to finally put the match to bed.
