Alexander Zverev, Daniil Medvedev progress at China Open after comfortable wins

Alexander Zverev and Daniil Medvedev progressed into the quarterfinals at the China Open after comfortable victories against Shang Juncheng and Jan-Lennard Struff respectively in Beijing.

World number 2 Zverev was particularly ruthless in his display as he dispatched his 21-year-old Shang 6-0, 6-3, while Medvedev also took two sets to beat German Struff 6-4 6-3.

Zverev, who is chasing the number ranking from JanniK Sinner, has now set up an intriguing quarterfinal clash against six-time champion Novak Djokovic.

After his last-16 win, Zverev said in his on-court interview, "I am excited about it. This is probably one of his (Djokovic's) most favourite courts in his career, he's never lost here.

"But of course I am going to do everything I can to make it a challenge and to be able to compete and hopefully be successful. That is what I am here for and I am looking forward to that challenge."

If Zverev can win in Beijing, he will jump up to 10,120, which is just 880 points adrift of Sinner.
