Gallants expect Folz to entertain

Newly appointed Marumo Gallants coach, Romain Folz is expected to pick up where his predecessor left off and entertain.

The young Frenchman was the surprise appointment by the Limpopo-based outfit last month after Dan Malesela and the club could not come to an agreement on an improved contract for him to stay on board.

Malesela reached the final of the Nedbank Cup and helped keep the club in the DStv Premiership having taken over a few games into the 2021/22 season.

Chairman Abram Sello spells it out:

œExactly as you Marumo Gallants style, the same one that we had with Dylan Kerr, the same one we had with Dan Malesela that™s why I don™t mention other coaches because these are the two of my role models in our club and that is what we gonna stick to.

œAnd then the main thing we just have to think tactically- how do we encourage our young players as we see we have the young squad how to motivate them.

œI think now in the past few weeks the coach has spoken to each and every player to motivate them. Some they wanted to leave some they wanted not to renew the contract but we need someone who is gonna work with them hand to glove to make sure they feel at home they explore their skill, they explore their talent and we need full potential from them Sello explained.

Sello has had to defend his choice given Folz is 31-years-old and doesn™t have an impeccable record from his previous job at Botswana™s Township Rollers. But he insists the club has made the right call.

When speaking to the media at the club™s event in Johannesburg recently, Folz would not comment on targets set by Gallants.

However, Sello hinted he is keen to see the team do better than their 10th place finish in the DStv Premiership last season.

Regarding Malesela, chairman Sello says there was no fall-out despite the coach™s contract not being renewed.
