Folz: I was never worried about it

AmaZulu coach Romain Folz says he was never worried about breaking his duck in the PSL after finally leading Usuthu to a narrow 1-0 win over Stellenbosch FC at the weekend.

The Frenchman had gone 12 games without a victory, dating back to his brief spell with another DStv Premiership side, Marumo Gallants, at the beginning of the season.

Such a result came as a timely boost ahead of this Saturday™s all-important MTN8 final against Orlando Pirates at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

"It's always good to have it done, even though I said multiple times that I was not worried because I knew it was coming. Now, in terms of timing, yes, it's even better for it to come now," Folz told the media.

"It also comes at a point where the win is also linked to the performance - I think we played a very good game this past Sunday and I think, more than the result itself, which was needed to get into the top eight in the league before the break, it was also important for us to deliver a good performance to be able to show what we can do.

"So, yes, I'm glad the result came at that time and I'm also glad it was linked to a good performance."

It will be the second time Usuthu face Pirates since Folz took up the head coach role, the first meeting having ended in a goalless draw last month.

The AmaZulu mentor more than fancies his side in the cup final, especially on the back of beating an in-form Stellies outfit.

"Compared to that game, we had more time to work and try and establish what we wanted to do. If you want to rewind on exactly what I said, I said we were much better than them in the first half and we should have scored on multiple occasions," he added.

"They were better than us in the second half and I said that we are not anything below their level, and I'm sticking with that. I think we have what we need in ourselves to at least match their level, if not get better.
