In a no holds barred press conference on Tuesday, Coach Hugo Broos described South Africa's last participation in a FIFA World Cup, which was on home soil in 2010, as a present.
The Belgian tactician was addressing the media on the way forward after Bafana Bafana suffered defeat in their opening 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers away to Morocco in Rabat last week.
He slated the Premier Soccer League for lacking in quality players and then added that there was some way to go before Bafana can catch up to the best on the global stage.
Broos fired his first salvo when he said the country only managed to be involved in the 2010 World Cup because they were hosts, not out of any serious effort to qualify.
I am not God, I dont know everything, he said during his press briefing on Tuesday.

But please, sit together and face everything. Dont cover it every time and shoot the coach and then say its easy, we will take another one.
"You see what has happened in the last 22 years? You had a few quarterfinals in the Afcon, thats all. And you were in the World Cup because it was a present... You organised it, you were there and didnt have to do anything for that.
The coach also said the fact that PSL clubs were in the latter stages of the CAF interclub competitions but did not win the competitions was further evidence theyd fallen behind.
Dont take this as criticism to Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns, they did very well," he added.
But in the end it was two Moroccan teams who won it [Champions League and Confederation Cup]. You played in the final [Pirates in the Confed Cup against RS Berkane], but you did not win it"
