Kaizer Chiefs host their bitter rivals Orlando Pirates in the semifinals of the Nedbank Cup at Soccer City on Saturday, 6 May 2023 – a much anticipated affair, given the high stakes.

It’s only the second time in seven years the two Soweto giants clash in this tournament, having last met in the round of 32 when both dugouts were led by former Bafana Bafana players Steve Komphela at Chiefs and Eric Tinkler for Pirates.

The Buccaneers then overpowered Amakhosi 2-0 to progress all the way to the final, where they were denied the title by SuperSport United following a five-goal thriller.

Fast forward to the present and it’s Arthur Zwane hoping to end Chiefs’ trophy drough – this being their last chance in the current campaign, while Jose Riveiro has already bagged one knockout tournament for Pirates in November last year.
