Zimbabwe won the toss and sent West Indies in to bat first, which paid off with Richard Ngarava and Brad Evans claiming the wickets of openers Brandon King and Shai Hope to leave the score at 54/2 for the Powerplay.
Shimron Hetmyer took it on himself to boost the Caribbean team with a powerful 19-ball half-century with onlooking incoming batsman Rovman Powell still on one run on the non-facing side.
The West Indian pair took their third wicket partnership to 122 with Hetmyer the aggressor smashing 85 off 34 balls to proper before he was caught by Brian Bennet off Graeme Cremer's bowling with his team to 176/3 after 14.3 overs.
Powell then took over the scoring, making 59 off 35 balls before being caught off Powerball specialist Blessing Muzabarani's bowling in the first ball of the 16th over.
Sherfane Rutherford and Romaro Shepherd then put on a brisk 37 run partnership for the fifth wicket before Richard Ngavara got Shepard dismissed with the total at 229/5 after 18.4 overs.
All-rounder Jason Holder hit two big sixes to propel the Caribbean to a huge total at 254/6.
In response Zimbabwe found themselves struggling at 20/3 after 2.4 overs, failing to keep up with required run rate during the powerplay.
Wickets fell regularly afterwards to thwart an attempt at the daunting total, as Dion Myers top scored for Zimbabwe as they ended their innings on despite a resilient effort from the tailenders.
West Indies now occupy second spot on the Super Eights group one table following their comprehensive 108 run victory to hand Zimbabwe their first loss of the tournament.
