Pakistan's new Test bowling coach just looking to 'add positivity' into the squad

The visitors have had a chaotic week after falling to big defeats in the opening two Test matches at Headingley and Lord's and conceding the series with a game to spare.

The fallout has been dramatic, with head coach Sarfraz Ahmed and bowling coach Umar Gul sacked from their duties and seven players sent home and replaced by an inexperienced contingent.

Pakistan's white-ball mentor Mike Hesson has stepped in while Noffke has been tasked with working with the bowlers as they look for a consolation win at Edgbaston.

"It doesn't happen very often and from Mike and my perspective, all we can do is come and add positivity," Noffke told the media at the venue.

"There's obviously a feeling of uncertainty (in the players) but also they've just got back on the job. I've been really impressed with the level of calmness that they've taken over the couple of days once we've given them time to talk.

"We've done that in one-on-one scenarios where they can talk to the head coach, the bowlers can talk with me, and they can get things off their chest and then move forward."

Noffke would rather not be talking about all the dramatic events that have taken place off the field, instead he has urged the players and staff on just playing "really good cricket", and stilling pride back in the Pakistan jersey.

He added: "You only instil pride with really good cricket, don't you? So, like we said before, the selection becomes out of our hands a little bit, and the players are completely out of their hands.

"All they can do is focus on putting good performances forward, so the comments based around how we're perceived will be determined by how well we play cricket and how quickly we develop.

"There's no question that we need to develop our game. Our Test game needs to improve. The strategy is good Test cricket. It's about focusing on where we want to take our cricket, what we want to improve, and what we can control with the skills that we have.

"Discipline, good areas when we're bowling, and long partnerships when we're batting. They're simple game plans."
