Nathan Lyon skittles out New Zealand to secure victory for Australia in opening Test

Australian spinner Nathan Lyon took six wickets in New Zealand's second innings to earn a comfortable 172-run victory in the first Test in Wellington.

Lyon struck early to cut home hopes of chasing 369, removing Rachin Ravindra for 59 after he added just three runs to his day three total.

Wickets fell quickly from there with wicketkeeper Tom Blundell out for a duck and Glenn Phillips, who took five wickets on day three, out for just one.

Daryl Mitchell tried to navigate batting with the tail but wickets fell around him until he was eventually dismissed by Josh Hazlewood, who took the final wicket with a catch off his own bowling.

The indomitable Lyon ended up with six for 65 and 10 for 108 for the game.

Cameron Green was named player of the match after his unbeaten 174 in the first innings, which included a 116-run last-wicket partnership with Hazlewood.
