Kevin Pietersen joins England's white-ball coaching team

The former England captain will initially join Brendon McCullum's coaching staff for the upcoming T20I and ODI series against Sri Lanka. He will work alongside Marcus Trescothick, Tim Southee, Jeetan Patel and Sarah Taylor.

Pietersen will also be involved in England's winter white-ball tours of Australia and South Africa, before returning for next year's series against Pakistan and New Zealand on English soil. His role will continue through the 2027 World Cup in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.

"I'm immensely proud to have been asked to help this team on their journey to win a World Cup in South Africa," Pietersen said.

"Putting on the England uniform again for the first time since 2014 is a profound honour and a deeply special moment."

McCullum welcomed Pietersen's appointment and believes his experience at the highest level will be particularly valuable to England's batters.

"I've got immense respect for KP and what he's achieved in the game," McCullum said. "He's had an amazing impact on English cricket."

Pietersen played 136 ODIs and 37 T20Is for England, scoring more than 5,500 white-ball runs, while also making 104 Test appearances and scoring 8,181 runs. He was part of England's 2010 T20 World Cup-winning side and most recently worked as a mentor with Delhi Capitals during the 2025 Indian Premier League.
