Josh Hazlewood rips through India top-order as Australia go ahead in T20I series

Josh Hazlewood starred with the ball as Australia beat India by four wickets at the MCG to go 1-0 ahead in the T20I series.

Hazlewood took 3-13 in four unchanged overs as the home team restricted India to a total of 125 all out in 18.4 overs.

Captain Mitchell Marsh then struck a belligerent 46 off just 26 deliveries as Australia reached the target in just 13.2 overs in front of close to 82 000 fans in Melbourne.

Hazlewood though set up the win with wickets of Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma as India slipped to 49-5 within the first eight overs.

The seamer received good support Nathan Ellis, who took the scalp Sanju Samson, but Abhishek Sharma struck 68 off 37 balls to get India over the 120-run mark.

Harshit Rana contributed 35 but the visitors just lost too many wickets at regular intervals to get total that would challenge the hosts.

Marsh and Travis Head then put Australia firmly in the driving seat with an opening partnership of 51 in 4.3 overs.

Head fell for 28 while number three Josh Inglis scored 20 before the home side lost five wickets for 37 but eventually got over the line.
