Bumrah was named in the initial squad for the Afghanistan T20Is, but subject to fitness clearance. The 32-year-old has featured in just two ODIs since the conclusion of the IPL in May. A recurring left-knee injury has kept the seamer out of the squad, but now he appears ready.
Elsewhere, India named Yash Thakur as a replacement for Harshit Rana. The fast bowler was progressing well during his rehab at the BCCI Centre of Excellence, but he sustained a rectus femoris strain while bowling during a match simulation on 7 September and has subsequently been ruled out.
Thakur recently made his T20I debut during India's tour of Zimbabwe in July. He played two matches and took four wickets.
India's updated squad for Afghanistan T20Is and 2026 Asian Games:
Shreyas Iyer (c), Abhishek Sharma, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Sanju Samson (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), Tilak Varma (vc), Shivam Dube, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Varun Chakaravarthy, Ravi Bishnoi, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Yash Thakur.
