Faf du Plessis passes 700-run mark as Heinrich Klaasen hits maiden IPL century

Faf du Plessis continued his rich vein of form in the 2023 IPL as he helped the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) beat the Sunrisers Hyderabad by eight wickets despite a maiden ton from Heinrich Klaasen.

Former Proteas captain Du Plessis scored 71 off just 47 balls, his eighth half-century in 13 innings in this season's campaign.

The 38-year-old now has 702 runs in the 2023 tournament and sits proudly atop the run-scoring charts with a few more matches still to play.

Du Plessis combined with India batter Virat Kohli (100 off 73 deliveries) for an opening stand of 172 as RCB chased down a target of 187.

The Sunrisers' total of 186-5 was thanks to Klaasen's belligerent 104 from just 51 balls while Proteas teammate Aiden Markram contributed 18.

It was Klaasen's first hundred in the competition and added to his already impressive 2023 season which has seen him score 430 runs in 11 innings at an average of 53 and, more importantly, a strike-rate of 179.

The Sunrisers unfortunately won't make the playoffs having only won 4 matches but RCB sit fourth in the standings and are still in with an opportunity of bagging their maiden IPL title.
