Mmodi available to the highest bidder – Arrows coach

Golden Arrows coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi has reiterated that the club is open to selling talisman Pule Mmodi, but only to the highest bidder.

The Bafana Bafana international has been the subject of numerous reports linking him to Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and AmaZulu as he is in the final year of his contract with the KwaZulu-Natal outfit.

Mmodi himself spoke out publicly and said he wanted to join Chiefs.

But that is not up to him.

“I think I have mentioned this before, but I will talk again today. Pule can leave the club at any time – if he has an offer. The aim isn’t to keep Pule here,” Vilakazi told journalists after Arrows lost 2-0 to Chiefs in the DStv Premiership on Saturday.

The 29-year-old has enjoyed a purple patch for more than a year now and it’s no surprise that he was called up by national team coach Hugo Broos in that time as well as being the target of rival Premier Soccer League clubs.

His representatives have in the past confirmed that Mmodi has a contract at Arrows until June 2023, which is until the end of the current season.

Now that the January transfer window is open and he is in the final six months of that initial agreement, Mmodi is allowed, by FIFA rules, to sign a pre-contract with any club of his choice with the intention to join them in July.

SABC Sport understands Arrows will look to cash in on his transfer before they could potentially lose him for free.

“Maybe I need to make it clear that if there’s an opportunity for the club to make money, he will be sold to any club that wants him. But as long as he is here, like currently as he is our player, there’s nothing we can do. We will work with him because he is prepared to work with us as things stand,” added Vilakazi.
